Frugal Friday Favorites

This spending freeze has really done a number on my head. I mean, it’s great–don’t get it twisted. My brain needed a little refresher course in “not buying happiness.” But, it’s really screwing with my Friday Favorites ideas. Do you know that I haven’t even set foot in Target since Christmas? This is the longest we’ve been apart and it’s taking a toll on our relationship.

So, here’s to another week of Frugal Friday Favorites to share with you. I hope that you’re recovering from a budget blowout and that these Frugal Favorites give you a little something to enjoy that won’t get you into trouble with your pocketbook.

First up, The Skimm:

The Skimm is a free subscription service that sends an email to you every morning (Monday-Friday), packed full of the news. The Skimm is like Cliffsnotes for the news. It’s wittily (is that a word?) written and–dare I say it–makes the news fun to read. Whoa.

I don’t watch the news every day and, sadly, I’m afraid that some days, the only “news” that I’m exposed to is via Facebook, which, let’s face it–is everything that’s wrong with this world. Because we all know how accurate and unbiased THAT is. So, every morning, I get an email from The Skimm, giving me a quick low-down on the world’s top stories, condensed into bite-sized pieces, sprinkled with sarcasm and humor, just the way that I like it.

Lansinoh Breastfeeding Salve

Lansinoh Breastfeeding Salve – HPA Lanolin, 1.41 oz–$6.99

I’m a fan of Dominique Sachse’s YouTube channel. She has great hair and makeup tutorials and, she holds a special place in my heart because she’s a newscaster on one of the big channels in Houston, so i grew up watching her on tv. In one of her videos, she proclaimed her love for Lansinoh Breastfeeding Salve for her lips at night. I’ll be honest, after needing to use Lansinoh for, um… “not my lips” for a bit with both of my babies, I think that I threw that stuff out as soon as humanly possible when I didn’t need it anymore and CERTAINLY never considered putting it on my lips. But, Dominique said that it’s a great overnight treatment for lips and, I’m pretty weird (Hi, have we met?) and I absolutely can not sleep without Chapstick or something on my lips–ideally, something more moisturizing than Chapstick. Enter Lansinoh. It’s the perfect consistency for lips–thick but not tacky. I put it on before bed and wake up with moisturized lips. I also use it on my cuticles if they’re dry. AND, since it comes in a 1.41 ounce tube, and you’re only using a little dab every night, it’s incredibly budget friendly,  Nipple cream for daaaayz, y’all.

Dominique Sachse’s YouTube channel:

Speaking of Dominique Sachse’s YouTube channel, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention it as one of my Friday Favorites. I’ve been watching her channel for awhile and, even though Dominique is a terribly successful anchor on one of Houston’s biggest tv stations, she typically has good tips for drugstore beauty dupes and is surprisingly frugal and budget-conscious, considering her status and the fact that she regularly rubs-elbows with Houston’s rich and famous. She’s incredibly approachable, humble and articulate and her videos are engaging and interesting.

And there you have it. Our third installment of Frugal Friday Favorites. Do you like this new concept? Are Frugal Favorites of interest to you? I’d love to hear your feedback.
